Task

“Journey Through American History” Project                 Mr. Isom and Mr. Metro

The only obligations on your part are that you keep a journal of your experiences, do a little research, write a postcard, and give a picture presentation of your travels to your peers in your home country. Read the information below for specific directions.  

Individual Products: All individual products must include a title page with a proper heading. All products are to be typed and appropriate bibliography is required.

• Journal Entries: You will visit the following four regions: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, and the West. Each of you will write one journal entry in which you describe one of the places you have visited per region (4 total). Your English teacher will provide you more details about this aspect of the assignment.

• Eyewitness Document (Memoir)-Each student will select one location from each region to write an eyewitness document narrating a significant event (1 total). Each group member should select a different location. Your English teacher will provide you more details about this aspect of the assignment.

• Postcard-Each student will create a postcard with a written reflection on his/ her experiences. Your English teacher will provide you more details about the postcard of the assignment.

• Impact Analysis-Each student will write an analysis on one significant event that occurred at one of the places visited explaining the significance to American history. Your history teacher will provide you more details about this aspect of the assignment. A sample is provided. (This will be assigned after the journals are complete).

Group Products:

• Map – The group will be responsible for creating a map that highlights their journey (with calculations and logistics).
• Power Point – Each group will also present a graphic representation of their journey with maps & pictures of locations visited. Identification and brief explanations are required. (Bibliography required)

1. Write the site or city name that your group wishes to visit (in column 2). Then, write down the region name in column 3. (Make sure that you do not select more than four locations per region.)
2. Using numbers, write down the order that your group will visit the sites in column 1. (Notice that the last location will be Los Angeles, so it is number 16.)
3. Write names of two students for each site in column 4 indicating who will be writing the journal entries for that site. (Each person will write two journal entries per region.)
4. Each group member will select on site from each region to write a memoir on. Write one name for each site in column 5.
5. Once you are finished with steps 1-4, fill out the group itinerary, including tracing the route on the map.
