Writing Assignments

Journals

For each location that you visit per region, you will write a journal. The purpose of these journals is to describe the places visited (refer to handout) in such a way that the reader can visualize/experience it through descriptive details.  It should include an introduction that orients the reader (what region are you in, what city, what site, etc.), ample description of the site (statue, memorial, museum, etc.) and an explanation of the historical significance of the place. The conclusion should discuss the significance or impact the visit had on you. In addition, an actual illustration (photograph or photographs) of the site being described is required. The illustration(s) may be on a separate page or you may “wrap” the test around it. Each journal must have its own reference source and bibliography provided.  

The journals (4) will receive a letter grade, which will be based on number completed and adherence to requirements. Illustrations/photos/graphics are required.  Provide a cover sheet with title, illustration, and heading.
