PART 1    

    In your selected groups of 2, please choose to read about one of the featured Canadians below each. Use the provided links to complete the assigned reading. Choose to complete either Option A or B (not both).

Option A -The Explorer  
1. Go to the following link and read the short biographies on La Vérendrye, Samuel de Champlain, or Jacques Cartier. http://www.civilization.ca/vmnf/explor/explcd_e.html Next go to http://collections.ic.gc.ca/heirloom_series/index.htm and click on Volume 3 Alligiance: The Ontario Story. Please read chapter 3 "The Exploration of Ontario."

 

2. Go to http://www.d.umn.edu/~noon0028/WebQuest.htm  and select the question sheet for Option A. Answer the questions to the best of your knowledge into your diary, based on the chapter reading you completed.  Please go to the WebQuest tab 'Evaluation' to see the grading rubric for the Research Report task.  16 POINTS

Option B - The Canadian Aboriginal  

1. Go to http://collections.ic.gc.ca/heirloom_series/index.htm and click on Volume 2 Canada's Native Peoples. Please read chapter 1 "Micmac Aboriginal Life." This chapter will focuss on the Micmac people. Next, using the same website, select Volume 3 Allegiance: The Ontario Story. Please read chapter 2 "In the Beginning."


2. Go to http://www.d.umn.edu/~noon0028/WebQuest.htm and select the question sheet for Option B. Answer the questions to the best of your knowledge into your diary, based on the chapter readings you completed. Please go to the WebQuest tab 'Evaluation' to see the grading rubric for the Research Report task.   16 POINTS

PART 2

Please complete the next task using the same Option you chose previously.

 Option A -The Explorer  

1. Use a search engine to find additional information about one of the three explorers you just read about. Use information from at least 2 additional sources. On a seperate piece of paper please draw an approximate map of places in Canada your explorer discovered or explored. This may be as narrow or as wide of an area that you like. Include both land and water, geographic names, and exploration routes taken. Include the URL of the sites you used for additional information.    10 POINTS

                      

Option B - The Canadian Aboriginal  

1. On a seperate piece of paper please create and draw a tribe flag for the Aboriginal group you researched. Include colours and symbols that represent their culture and early Canadian life.  You may use a search engine to look for ideas. Include a URL for any webpage you used for idea. This must be your original creation, your flag drawing must not already exist.   10 POINTS

      

PART 3

Please complete this final step in your WebQuest adventure.  Use all the knowledge and ideas you have acquired up to this point.

Option A -The Explorer  

1. Lastly, create an Inspiration document based on the life and times of the explorer you read about. Include pictures and text in a creative way to dipict the role of this person in the exploration of Canada. Please go to the WebQuest tab 'Evaluation' to see the grading rubric for the Inspiration Assignment. Inspiration software is available for a free 30 day trial at http://www.inspiration.com if you would like to download it at home. This software is also available on any school computer.  16 POINTS
