The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a large island of floating waste in the Pacific Ocean. It shows our excessive use of plastic and bad recycling habit. In order to fix the problem, we must first let more people know about it.
This WebQuest was developed as a project for an Education Technology course in Simon Fraser University. Under the supervision of Professor Kevin O'Neill, the class acquired necessary knowledge and skills to construct a WebQuest.
This project aims to increase the students' awareness of an environmental issue, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Science and Social Studies teachers can also find it useful as a framework to engage student research and collaboration.
Although the Environment Canada poster design concept is fictional, teachers can use this idea as an example to create or join actual events or contests. Students will be much more motivated and engaged if their work will become useful in the real world.
