BrainPOP Jr. | Health | Learn about Going to the Doctor
This website requires log-in information

This website has many components.  There is a video where students learn about going to the doctor - who a doctor is, what a doctor does, and why it is important to go to the doctor even when you are not feeling sick.  There is a memory game where students match the doctor's tools.  There is an art section where students draw a doctor's tool they have learned about, or perhaps something else a doctor uses when they have gone for a checkup.  There is a write about it section where student write questions they might have for their doctor and bring them to their next visit.  There is a read about it section with recommendations for books - a good teacher resource.  All sections would be helpful during the WebQuest for students to learn about a doctor and what they do.

This website has many components.  There is a video where students learn about going to the dentist - who a dentist is, what a dentist does, and why it is important to go to the dentist.  There is a word game where students have to click on words that are important to good oral health (ie. hygiene, x-rays, dental floss, dentist).  There is an art section where students draw something they might see in a dentist's office; they are asked to label their drawing as well.  There is a write about it section where student write questions they might have for their dentist and bring them to their next visit.  There is a read about it section with recommendations for books - a good teacher resource.  All sections would be helpful during the WebQuest for students to learn about a dentist and what they do.

Elmo Goes to the Doctor
After the page loads click on Games at the top of the page.  Click the arrow on the right side of the page once, and then click on Elmo Goes to the Doctor.  This interactive game gives students the opportunity to visit the doctor with Elmo.  They are able to select why Elmo does not feel well; they can interact with his friends and the toys in the waiting room.  They can explore the exam room and help the doctor examine Elmo.  As a feature of the WebQuest, students are able to experience one reason why we go to the doctor - when we are not feeling well.

Curious George - On the Job
On the Job game - In this interactive game, students match the community helper to the tool they use (ie. painter - brush; police officer - cruiser).  As part of the WebQuest, students are able to learn more which tools are important to different community helper's jobs.  This game also would help the teacher informally assess the student's understanding of the topic as they progress through the WebQuest.

Martha Speaks . Games . Crazy Vechile | PBS Kids
Crazy Vechile game - In this interactive game, students play as Martha the dog and deliver packages.  They must use the controls to change the vechile based on terrain (land, water, air), stop at each mailbox, deliver the package, and speed past the villain.  As a part of the WebQuest, students are given the opportunity to experience the role of a mail carrier.

Community Club: Police Officer

Operation Silly Skills Game
This interactive game plays similiar to the classic board game.  Students race against the clock to remove the items causing Cavity Sam pain.  Once a student has clicked on the item they must hold the mouse button until the thermometer fills, then they may remove the item and place in the tray.  Students must be careful not to touch the red sides or the thermometer will empty and the student must try again.  As part of the WebQuest students are able to better understand what a doctor does to keep us healthy.
NOTE: Younger students may become frustrated.  Students need a steady hand and solid mouse control to be successful; it is very tricky.

Ben's Guide (K-2): Your Neighborhood
This website opens with a neighborhood map showing students common places where they would find community helpers.  This site includes an interactive game for students to learn more about some helpers in their community (police officer, firefighter, teacher, doctor, librarian) that they will explore during the WebQuest.

What's My Job? -- People
This website gives students the opportunity to test their knowledge about some of the community helpers they have read and learned about.  After reading the description of the helper's job (ie. I deliver the mail to your house.), students are asked to click on the correct picture (ie. mailman).  As a part of the WebQuest teacher may use this game as an informal assessment of what they students understand and may need to work on.
