It was over 70 years ago when Mr. Popper received that radio message from the famous explorer, Admiral Drake. 



Today, no one permanently lives in Antarctica.  But scientists and their staff reside in science stations throughout the year.  Approximately 1,000 people live in Antarctica in the Winter and as many as 5,000 people live there in the summer months. 


It is understandable why Mr. Poppers was so interested in learning about this unique land, Antarctica.
