IMAGINE a world without Hitler. Would World War II have taken place? If not, what other conflicts may have been avoided? What other conflicts may have developed? What would Europe look like geographically? Politically? Economically? Culturally? Consider each of the areas below and consider how our world may look differntly if Hitler never became the leader of Germany in 1933.
- Geography of Europe
- Religious Conflicts/Cultural Ideology
- The Rise of Communism/Cold War
- Methods of Warfare
- Imperialism and the changes post-war
- The United Nations
The task of your group is to prepare for a Socratic Seminar. In this process, there are not necessarily right or wrong answers. You are not trying to CONVINCE someone of something, as we cannot re-write history. Rather, it is to use our knowledge, ideas, and imagination to create what the world could look like if Hitler wasn't in it. This is not an easy task, as we are often trained to convince others we are right and they are wrong. Socrates said, ""Wonder is the beginning of wisdom." He also said, "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." So, open your mind, listen and learn!
