Teacher Process
Step 1: Gain Background Information.Carefully review the task, process, and evaluation of the student portion of this WebQuest.
Step 2: Spark Student Interest. You may elect to watch a video on the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII to spark student interest in the WebQuest. Viewing a slide show or conducting an open discussion/debate on the topic, are two other methods to gain their interest.
Step 3: Modify WebQuest. Considering the unique needs and goals of your class, you may choose to modify certain components. You may reduce or simplify the workload depending on grade/knowledge level. Some other factors to consider are the following:
A. I have purposely provided diverse roles implementing diverse learning modalities with consideration of Gardner's multiple intelligences. Assign roles and assignments that work best with your students and your class goals.
B. You may choose to make certain parts of the
WebQuest as classwide assignments. For example, step 3 of PHASE ONE in the Learner Process, "Develop Background Understanding"
requires that students watch a video and view PowerPoint presentations
within their individual groups. You might prefer to make these elements
class-wide instead.
C. Develop a Timescale. This WebQuest is quite comprehensive and will take a considerable amount of time. Evaluate the time you are willing to spend on it, and make adjustments accordingly.
Step 4: Introduce Technology. Depending on the technological experience of your class, you may choose to navigate through the elements of the WebQuest and the internet using a projector.
Step 5: Assign Groups/ Roles. Implement your chosen method of assigning groups and roles.
Step 6: Begin Work. From this point on, the students will be primarily working in their groups. Your task as the teacher is to facilitate, support, and encourage students along their pursuit of constructing knowledge and actively engaging themselves in the learning process.
HAVE FUN!
