This WebQuest is an extension of the story, "Finding the Titanic" written by Robert Ballard. Students will explore the history behind the sinking of the Titanic, watch video footage of the wreckage, and respond to stories of actual survivors accounts from the Titanic. Students' final products will be their letters to a survivor describing their experiences with the sunken ship through this WebQuest.

Teacher Introduction

This lesson was developed to be used in conjunction with the Houghton Mifflin Reading Series for Grade 4. It covers language arts and social studies outcomes because it gets the students to practice their research and writing skills. The students will need to know how to operate a computer, use the internet, and be able to select pertinent information from the websites given to complete their task.

It covers higher level thinking skills such as drawing conclusions, evaluating, determining importance, critical thinking, and asking questions.
