This WebQuest is designed to extend student knowledge of the word genocide, heighten student awareness of genocides throughout the world, and take a stand on whether it is another country's responsibility to prevent these acts of mass murder.

Introduction

"Once I really am in power, my first and foremost task will be the annihilation of the Jews."
-Adolf Hitler

In the play The Diary of Anne Frank and the novel Night, the characters of Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel experience the effects of Adolf Hitler's policy to institute a global genocide of persons he considered "inferior."  Unfortunately, this practice of merciless killing has continued throughout the history of the world and is still occurring in numerous countries today.

The Question:

Is the United States or any other country responsible for taking action to prevent genocide that is occurring in other countries?

Many people in this country and others feel an obligation to prevent these acts; whereas, other people feel we need to "mind our own business."  After this WebQuest, you will have formed your own opinion and will be able to support it with the research you will complete during this project.
