This WebQuest is designed to familiarize students with the genre of mystery literature and help them identify common themes and elements so that they can write their own short mystery story.

Have you ever wondered about what it might be like to be a detective? How about a writer? Well, you get the chance to try out both when you do the Mystery WebQuest. In this WebQuest, you'll learn about mystery literature in general, and then apply that general knowledge to analyze five specific stories. You're the detective, as you search for clues to complete your chart. After reading these examples of mystery literature, it's your turn to write! You become a mystery writer and create your own short mystery story to share with the class.
