This WebQuest is designed to familiarize students with the genre of mystery literature and help them identify common themes and elements so that they can write their own short mystery story.

Teacher Introduction

Designed to give students a deeper understanding of a particular type of fiction writing, the mystery, this WebQuest challenges students to analyze short stories and then to write their own. It engages them with several interesting and suspenseful stories, which will hopefully help them to develop an interest in reading for pleasure. The final product of the WebQuest is a short story that students write in pairs. Writing a story of their own will help students more fully understand the genre of mystery literature, develop their writing skills and interpersonal skills, and provide an avenue for creativity and originality in the classroom.
