NASPE Content Standards
"The National Association for Sport and Physical Education appointed the Outcomes Committee to answer the question "What should students know and be able to do?" The "Outcomes Project" culminated in the development of a definition of the physically educated person. This definition included five major focus areas, specifying that a physically educated person:
- Has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities
- Is physically fit
- Does participate regularly in physical activity
- Knows the implications of and the benefits from involvement in physical activities
- Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle"
Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting and decision-making skills to enhance health--
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize various strategies when making decisions related to health needs and risks of young adults.
- Analyze health concerns that require collaborative decision making.
- Predict immediate and long-term impact of health decisions on the individual, family, and community.
- Implement a plan for attaining a personal health goal.
- Evaluate progress toward achieving personal health goals.
- Formulate an effective plan for lifelong health.
California Department of Education - Physical Education Model Content Standards for High School
Course 1 - Standard 2
Students achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies.
2.1 Participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity at least four days each week.
2.2 Participate in enjoyable and challenging physical activities that develop and maintain the
fi ve components of physical fi tness.
2.3 Meet health-related physical fitness standards established by a scientifically based healthrelated
fi tness assessment.
2.4 Use physical fi tness test results to set and adjust goals to improve fi tness.
2.5 Improve and maintain physical fi tness by adjusting physical activity levels according to
the principles of exercise.
2.6 Identify the physical fi tness requirements of an occupation.
2.7 Develop and implement a one-month personal physical fi tness plan.
2.8 Analyze consumer physical fi tness products and programs.
2.9 Explain the inherent risks associated with physical activity in extreme environments.
2.10 Identify and list available fi tness resources in the community.
2.11 Explain the role of physical activity in the prevention of disease and the reduction of health care costs.
