On this Webquest, students will go back in time from the perspective of a Native American or a Friar during the settling of California by Spain.They will be responsible for writing journal entries about their experience.

Introduction

The 1800's in California was an excting time in history. King Carlos of Spain wanted California all for himself. So he sent over soldiers to build Presidios to protect his claim. Meanwhile the Missionaries or Friars, particularly Junipero Serra, began building Missions all through California. Can you imagine having your peaceful life disturbed as the Spanish move in? In this webquest you will choose the role of Friar or Native American and learn about life in early California.
