Using Ed Emberley's Picture Pie as a springboard, students create "workbook" samples to help teach fraction addition using eighths, fourths, and halves. In the process they learn about book making techniques, fraction concepts, and more about Ed Emberley's unique art for children.
Introduction
Prototypes Wanted
The company that publishes Ed Emberley's art books has just announced a design contest. They are looking for creative teams of students to submit sample books that combine art (using the techniques Ed Emberley uses in his Picture Pie book) and math, to help students learn about adding fractions with unlike denominators.
