Teacher Process
Before Integrating this Webquest into Your Lessons:
- Consider the appropriateness of this Webquest in your unit.
- Make sure that your students have an adequate introduction into the Progressive Era. While this Webquest could be used at any time in the unit, a foundation in the time period would be best.
- Consider any modifications that need to be made.
Other Suggestions and Processes:
- Acquaint yourself with the Progressive Era.
- Examine the topic of child labor within that time period, noting the different perspectives.
- Explore the resources linked to this Webquest.
- Run through the Webquest to become comfortable with the processes and assignment.
- Divide your students into groups. Pre-selected groups by you are advised. It is best if there is one student for each role within the group.
- Explain the roles. Students may choose their own roles, or the instructor may provide them. That is up to your discretion.
- Relay the goals and purposes of this Webquest to your students.
- Run through the Webquest with your students. Make sure your students can confidently and comfortably use the Webquest. Also, make sure that the students understand the components and the expectations of the assignment.
During the Webquest:
- Monitor your students. Walk around to check for complications or questions. While the Webquest should be self-directed, do provide guidance when necessary.
- Check the students' work in progress. Look at the notes students have taken, rough copies of their speeches, and other components that may constitute a checkpoint.
- Provide the students with time reminders.
- Remind students to check the rubric to ensure that they are fulfilling the requirements.
- Make sure that the students are on the proper websites. Monitor that e-mail accounts and other internet sites are not being accessed. Remind the students that, in the classroom, the internet is a tool for learning.
