Estimating cloud height using Excel In this WebQuest, middle school students will search the Internet to research the four basic cloud types, the conditions necessary for clouds to form, create a cloud in a bottle, and create a spreadsheet to estimate cloud height. Students will also use an Internet site that specifically generates cloud height when ambient temperature and humidity are given. Students will use this site to check on the accuracy of their graphs.
Introduction
NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration wants to
develop educational activities for middle school students. Your Teacher has
been selected to submit several activities for publishing in the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Educational Website.
Along the way, you will
make a cloud in a bottle, experiment with temperature, dew point and cloud
formation, and construct a graph of the relationship between temperature and
cloud height.
You will write a report
on this activity and submit it to your teacher. In the report, you will tell
your teacher what you learned and which activities were too easy or too hard
for you.
Your contribution to this activity will help them develop
lessons geared for students your age.
