Process
1. Students will be challenged to research the process of planning, opening, and running a restaurant. They will need to have background information on various types of restaurants, ideal location, and overall understanding of what goes into running a successful restaurant.
Various sites to help you complete you tasks are: www.dinesite.com, www.visitgeorgetown.com/dining.restaurants.php, www.quantifymarketing.com/restaurant-design.php, www.ksadesign.com/rest.html, www.waitrose.com/food_drink/wifi/foodaroundtheworld/index.asp.
2. After doing background research and having a better understanding of the process of running a restaurant, students need to decide what the theme (type of food, family friendly, location, quality, etc.) of the restaurant will be, the rolls of each student, and when they can meet to discuss and synthesize ideas.
3. Once the students have assigned roles and have decided on the theme of the restaurant each student will be responsible for researching relevant information that pertains to his/her role and then will be responsible for incorporating their knowledge to the overall project. This means that each student must have a clear understanding of their role and how they will contribute to the running of a restaurant. For example: the Architect will research various models and designs of restaurants and then will decide which design will be best for the overall theme of the groups restaurant. Then the Architect will have to present his ideas to the rest of the team. Each member will follow this model.
4. The next step is for the group members to collaborate on how their individual roles and ideas will contribute to the final product of a successful restaurant.
5. As mentioned in the end of process 1: each group member will be responsible for relaying their research information and collaborating with other group members to create and run a sucessful restaurant. Since each group member has a specific role and therefore did specific research that pertrained to their role, is it necessary that the collaboration includes each student sharing their information in an understandable way so that the group can brainstorm on how to incorporate information in with their own.
In order to have each person contribute equally, students may want to try: brainstorming, building consensus, and time management.
6. Synthesize info and put it together to create a unique restaurant. Use rationality to apply knowledge and create a sucessful restaurant. Then, create a presentation and show the class what you came up with.
