In this webquest, students will research current U.S.-Mexican border laws and the pros and cons of the current system. They will then choose to either support stricter border laws or support less strict border laws and present their findings in a persuasive Power Point presentation. They will also compose a persuasive letter to Congress voicing their concerns.

Teacher Introduction

Throughout the history of the United States, Mexicans have immigrated to the United States for various reasons. In the past several decades, however, the United States has created stricter laws in attempt to decrease the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States from Mexico. The entire process has had profound effects on both the United States and on Mexico, which has in turn created a great deal of tension and heated opinions surrounding the issue. In this webquest students will have the opportunity to research issues concerning Illegal Mexican Immigration and Border Laws. We chose this topic due to the fact that this is a current issue that effects our society and it fits well with our study of current events. In this lesson the students will learn how to find meaningful information from informational writing. They will also learn how to write and speak persuasivly, by creating a persuasive Power Point presentation and a letter to Congress (for both of which they will present an argument and support it with their research).
