Process
Your teacher has given you a role to play in your group. Follow these steps to help you decide what to feed Paddy.
DAY 1
1. Take turns looking at your teeth in the hand mirror.
Illustrator: Draw a picture of your own or one of your group members' teeth in your “Tooth Diary”. How many different shapes of teeth can you see in your mouth?
2. As a group brainstorm why these shapes are different.
Fact Finder: Write down your group’s brainstorms in your "Tooth Diary".
3. Visit these two websites to find out the names of the different kinds of teeth in your mouth and their use.
Word Wizard: Be sure to be on the lookout for these words: incisor, canine, and molar. Write down what each of these words mean in your “Tooth Diary”. Illustrator: Draw a picture of the words the word finder found.
DAY 2
Now that you have learned more about human teeth you must learn about the teeth that other animals have.
1. Look at the pictures you see below. Brainstorm what each animal eats. Fact Finder: Write down your group's brainstorms in your "Tooth Diary". Tell why you think they eat what you predicted.

2. Visit these two websites to learn more about how we can tell what animals eat based on the type of teeth they have.
Word Wizard: Look out for these words: carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore. Write what these words mean in your “Tooth Diary”. Illustrator: Draw pictures of the type of food carnivores eat, herbivores eat, and omnivores eat next to the word in the “Tooth Diary.” Fact Finder: Write down facts about the shape of carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore teeth.
3. Now visit this website to read about different kinds of animals and their teeth. See if you can play the game and match the right type of teeth to the correct animal.
DAY 3
Think about all you have learned about types of teeth and carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. What do you think Paddy is? How can we tell?
1. Look at these pictures of different animal teeth. You will also find the same pictures in your “Tooth Diary”. Use what you know to write carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore next to the picture.

2. Here are two pictures of Paddy’s teeth. Is he a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore? Decide what you think with your group.

3. You will now make a poster of Paddy eating the perfect snack. As a group, agree on what would be the perfect snack for Paddy.
Illustrator: Draw a picture of Paddy eating his perfect snack. Make sure the snack is big enough for Paddy. He is really hungry!
Fact Finder: Write three sentences that tell what snack you chose for Paddy and why?
Word Wizard: You will act as a reporter for your group. You will show your group’s picture to the class and explain why you chose the snack that you did.
