Process

Pick a Country!!!

Each group needs one country. Once you have chosen your country write it on the chalk/white board so that no one else chooses that same country.  Once you have claimed your country, follow the links listed directly below your countries name to learn more about your country.

Divide the Jobs!

There are five tasks described below.  Each of you will choose to be the leader of one of these five tasks.  All group members will participate in each of these tasks, but the leaders will be responsible for the majority of that task.  Cooperation is extremely important when completing these tasks, and this is a great opportunity for you to practice the good assertive leaderships skills that we have been practicing.

1. Architect - Design and create your country. This will include a map and any kind of three dimensional representation of your country (diorama, topographical map, flat map with 3-D points of interest, etc.)  Be creative!  Be sure to look at the terrain, and climate as well. (Maps will be very helpful)

2. Travel Agent - You are going to our tour guide who takes us to all of the interesting places and introduces us to the current important people of your country.  You will develop a tourist guide including pictures, landmarks and famous sites and descriptions of their importance.  Be sure to include the travel plan or where you will take us on our visit and how long we will be spending at each place.

3. Native -  Come up with at least one recipe of a traditional food that could be made (with adult help and supervision). You will also design and create traditional clothing that could be worn in your country.  Make sure that you have enough clothing items for all five group members.  These should  fit the members of your group because you will be wearing them when your visitors come!  This could be done using whatever basic craft supplies you have available to you.

4. Teacher - Find several words or phrases in your country's language that you could teach to visitors.  For example, find out how to say "hello," "goodbye," or "how are you?" in your country's native language.  It would be helpful to display these words or phrases for all to see.  Also be sure to research customs of your country that you could teach to visitors.  For example, what kind of holidays or celebrations are there in your country?  How does their culture differ from your own? etc.

5. Historian - Find important historical landmarks that have taken place in your country and create a brief history of your country that can be shared with visitors. A time line would be a great way to share this information.  Be sure to use pictures and to do your best writing.  Also be sure to include a description of the people from your country who you found to be the most interesting or influential.

Bring the information together.

Now, once your group has completed all five tasks, you should now prepare yourself to be able to teach your visitors! Share the brochures, clothing, and intersting facts with each other, and make sure that your whole group is informed about your wonderful country. This may take a while, so be creative with how you will teach your friends.  Even though all group members have participated in completing each task, the leaders of each task will be in charge of sharing that portion of the project with the visitors.  Remember to make this fun and exiting for everyone!
