In this WebQuest students will be part of a space team that will travel to the solar system and find information about constellations, such as Greek name, abbreviation, myth, actual appearance in the night sky, what it represents, and the hemisphere it is located in. They will create their own constellation that they would want to see in the night sky.

Teacher Introduction

This WebQuest was created for a project that I was assigned in my C&I 423 class at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  It is also created to be put into a ten day integrated thematic unit on the solar system as an activity for the students to participate in.  Stars are an important part of the solar system, just look what the closet star to Earth is, the Sun.  They also help with the existence of atomic elements in our universe. This WebQuest will give them an interesting introduction on the topic of stars and give them a chance to be creative with the idea of stars and constellations.

This WebQuest was created for second graders, but can be used in higher grade levels, if you alter some of the facts that they may need to find, such as finding the alpha star of the constellation and learning what and alpha star is.  When completed with the assignment the students will have met some Illinois learning standards in Science as well as English language arts.
