Task

You will analyze and evaluate Walt Whitman's poetry, discovering how he celebrates the seemingly ordinary aspects of America and Americans.

In groups, you will brainstorm which American men and women, ideals, and landscapes Whitman would consider worthy  of  praising today. Your responses will then be posted  on your class blog page.

Next, your group will collect images in order to create a slideshow presentation showcasing what you feel is praiseworthy about your country.

Finally, each member of the group will write an original celebration poem. You will present these poems alongside your slideshow at our in-class poetry cafe event .
