Process
To prepare your class presentation, you will assign roles to each person in your group. The roles are Historian 1, Historian 2, Chef, Activities Director, and Teacher. If you have 6 members in your group, you will also have an Artist. Groups of 5 will work in class collaboratively to create their visual displays.
Historians
Your job is to find out everything you can about the history of your holiday. Find out what country it originated in, what country or countries celebrate it today, and how it has developed or changed over time. You will turn in a one to two page paper that contains this information. The paper should be written neatly or typed. If you are studying St. Patrick's Day, go to the clover. If you are studying Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day), go to the pancakes. If you are studying Boxing Day, go to the boxing gloves. If you are studying Guy Fawkes Day, go to the fireworks.
Chef
Activities Director
Your duties involve finding as many activities as you can that are associated with your holiday. Just like the chef, you will need to submit descriptions of at least 3 activities. You will need to type or write this information neatly. You will also be in charge of bringing the necessary materials and instructions to set up the activity in our classroom during our British Holiday Hullabaloo! *Note: Activities can be crafts having to do with your holiday. Boxing Day group can do Christmas activities.
Teacher
You have the job of presenting all of your group's information to the class. If you only have 5 members in your group, you will need to make some kind of visual display (poster, classroom decorations, panorama - be creative!) and tell the class what your group members have found out. You will need to work closely with the Historians because their information will be the bulk of your presentation. Your presentation should be about 5-8 minutes.
Artist
If you are the artist, you are in charge of creating
the visual display for your group's presentation. This needs to
be more than just a poster - a trifold or classroom decorations or more
than one poster would be sufficient. If you do posters or a
trifold, you should include information that summarized what your group
has learned about the holiday. If you do classroom decorations,
make sure it is enough to cover the whole classroom!
