Webquest on James Cook's First Voyage to New Zealand. Students will reconstruct the story of the arrival of the Endevour in New Zealand through the eyes of some of the participants in history.
Introduction
It is October 1769 and the Endeavour, Captain Cook’s ship, is about to reach New Zealand. The crew have spent a long time in the sea and everybody is eager to reach shore. On the 6th of October, they see land. The sailors are busy with the sails and the ropes, the scientists on board are anxious to record new plants and animal species, the Captain is worried about any dangers they can encounter. Meanwhile, the Maoris can’t even imagine what is coming from beyond their shores. The first encounter is not very friendly...
