Follow these steps to complete your webquest assignment:
Note, these questions are designed to build the knowledge you will need to complete the final task for this webquest.
#1 After reviewing your websites, get back together with your group and compare and contrast the information that you found on your website. Pay attention to similarities and differences between the three websites.
#2 Answer the following questions individually, then get back with your group members and discuss the answers that you came up with.
Question 1
Within the next day, record everything that you eat. Then see if it matches up with the recommended daily allowance. Make a chart that shows what you ate and see if this is more or less then what the food pyramid recommends for the day. Figure out the percentages of the food you had and see if this is more or less what was needed. The question is, how did the food you ate compare with what is recommended by the pyramid to stay healthy?
Question 2
Find a label online of a food you like to eat. Figure out which food group it belongs to and how much it is recommended that you eat. Then look to see if this is considered a healthy food or not. Compare these percentages to the recommended percentages that you found on the websites you researched earlier. See if this food is more or less what is recommended. If the food is under the recommended daily allowance, find the difference so you would know how much more of this food group you can eat so that you have met the recommended daily amount.
Question 3
As a class, decide on a food group that you will record and monitor the serving size of one food group. The next day, record on the board the total amount of that food group and find the total amount for the class food group. Using the number of students in the class, decide and figure up what the class daily allowance should be for your class of twenty. Determine if your class was over or under the daily allowance for that food group.
Final Question...the big one!!
You will plan a daily meal that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner using all the food groups on the food pyramid based on recommended daily serving size. Look back at the websites you evaluated earlier and make sure you look at the daily allowance for your age group. Make sure that your daily meals do not go over the recommended serving size keeping in mind that you might want to have a couple snacks along the way so you will have to plan for the minimun recommended serving. You will need to be multiplying or adding your servings to ensure you don't go over the recommended daily allowance for each food group.
