Students will do research on the internet and create a travel journal as if they are traveling through the Underground Railroad. Students have to include at least one well researched character and write about an encounter that they have with this person.
Introduction
A rooster crows...you wake up and discover that you have become a black
slave on a plantation and you need to escape north to freedom. You can choose the state that follows the slave
route. The year is 1849. You have a small family that consists of
a mother, father, and a child who is a teenager.
Your challenge is to find your way north to freedom and write about your experiences through letters back home to the child's grandparents, and to keep a detailed journal with images to show important parts of your journey and the environment around you.
Have Fun!
