This webquest will give you a brief history of Florida Crackers.

Introduction

This webquest is designed to introduce what life was like in Florida during the late 1800s through the early part of the 1900s.  There are three processes that you will need to complete in order to be ready for the book "Strawberry Girl" by Lois Lenski. 

First, you will read a brief history about Florida during the turn of the century.  You will next answer several questions testing your reading comprehension.

Next, you will read about the history of the people who lived in Florida during the late 1800s and early 1900s.  You will answer several questions testing your reading comprehension on Cracker life.  You will write a one page story describing the life of Crackers.

Last, you will study the various terms that Crackers used.  You will translate five sentences using Cracker terms.  You will also create five sentences of your own using Cracker terms.  

Your test over the study of Florida Cracker history will be a writing assignment and photo search and selection. You will write a one page story about life as a Cracker living in Florida around the early 1900s based on your selected photo.
