This WebQuest is designed for students to learn about and classify the four types of soil (sand, silt, clay and loam) based on their physical characteristics. The students will discover the importance and composition of soil. Students will also complete a scientific investigation to determine the type of soil found in their schoolyard. They will predict if their schoolyard will be a good place for a garden to grow and explain why or why not.
Introduction
Have you ever wondered what kind of dirt you are playing on and tracking inside the school on your shoes and clothes? This week we are going to find that out! You are going to be soil scientists learning what soil is made of and discovering why it is such an important resource. You are going to learn about the different soil types and you will even conduct an investigation to discover the answer to the questions "What is that on the bottom of you shoe?" and "Can I plant a flower garden there?"
