This lesson is about Day of the Dead. The students’ final product will be an authentic altar designed by students honoring an important Hispanic historical figure accompanied by a research paper and a group presentation.

Introduction

Welcome to Mexico! You and your group members have just moved here from
the United States. Wow! Things are really different around here. First
of all, there is this holiday coming up at the end of October called “Día de Los Muertos”. The town is bustling. The markets are making new foods and
candies you’ve never seen or heard of. This holiday seems like a big
deal! You don’t know too much about it, but all your neighbors are making
something called “ofrendas”. They want you to make one too. But how?
