Learners

This lesson is designed for high school students who are in Spanish 2, 3 or beyond. This lesson incorporates community perspectives on a holiday that is very misunderstood in American Culture. Students will have the opportunity to go through the process of making an altar honoring someone in the way members of the target language culture do.

Students will need to have a basic understanding of the holiday, in terms of origin, where it is celebrated and the time of year it occurs. Students who have been in Spanish class and have been introduced to this holiday before will become better aware of the meaning of the holiday and better comprehend the symbolism, meanings and practices of those who celebrate it.
