Upon completing this project, you will create a set of nine 9" x 9" or 12" x 12" tiles (it's your choice), each representative of nine different color schemes. And, they will each use the same repeated original design that you will create. You will have 10 class periods in which to complete this project. The day after your last class period of this project, you will have a critique. During the critique you will present your set of finished tiles to the class. You can read more about the project in this WebQuest. Be sure to visit the evaluation page to see how you will be evaluated. Below are a few things to help get you started.
First, take a look at these links. They are about color schemes, more color schemes, even more color schemes, fun colors and a few of the compositional elements of design, as well as even more information on color schemes. These links will be helpful to you. For additional information, be sure to use the resources in class and your textbook.
Second, start developing your original design.
After you have decided on your design, begin mock-ups of your layout arrangements as they will apprear on each of your tiles and as a set.
Decide how you will display your tiles. You can choose to use 9"x9" or 12"x12", paper or cardboard (remember it's your choice). Be sure you cut your tiles precisely to these dimensions. As these will be displayed in a set, you should keep your set of tiles uniform in size and surface selection.
Lightly outline or trace your design motif on each of the tiles. Make sure that you use the compositional elements of design throughout the set.
