An exploration into the groundbreaking science and the ethical dilemmas of genetic testing of embryos.

Teacher Introduction

This lesson explores the ethical and legal issues associated with "test-tube babies." With the availability of in vitro fertilization and preimplantation genetic testing, parents have the option to screen for embryos with various diseases, but also to determine the sex and other characteristics of the embryos, and choose the one they want.

The students read six articles related to the issue, then take on the role of congressmen drafting a bill that will govern the use of genetic testing.
