Week One
You are an aspiring author. You would like to have your manuscript published, but you do not know where to start. By the end of this week you should have
- written an original short story
- made a list of steps it takes to get a book published
- written a business letter that convinces the publishing company to read your manuscript. (you should use your powers of persuasion and formatted the letter properly)
Week Two
This week your team are editors for a famous publishing company. You have a reputation to protect and it takes a great piece of writing to impress you. You want to see correct spelling, grammar, and great examples of figurative language.
Your team has just received several manuscripts.
- Grade the manuscript using the rubric provided. Be fair it is your grade that will suffer if you do not.
- Edit the work for spelling and grammar---Double check your work--your are the expert
- Revise by adding some figurative language to the story
- Write a business letter back to the author. Make some suggestions on how the story could be made better. Be specific and kind. The author worked hard on his or her piece.
