This Webquest activity was created for English/Language Arts classes at the high school level. It focuses on poetry from the Romantic era and literary devices. After students review literary terminology and closely read some poems, they will create ther own poem that emulates Romantic styles and includes literary devices.
Teacher Introduction
This Webquest was created for an Educational Technology course and has not actually been used or applied in a class. However, this is an excellent way to allow students to experience poetry while connecting it to a period of literature. This will help students learn through poetry as well as experiment with their own creativity. This assignment will also help them become more familiar with literary devices such as metaphors, personification, rhyme, etc. and the purposes they can serve in literary works.
Overall, this Webquest is intended to have students practice close reading skills in order to learn about "Nature Poetry" from the Romantic Period. To do so, students are expected to individually learn some common literary devices/figurative language, then in small groups discuss some popular poems of the time. At the end of the Quest, the students will need to create their own poetry in which they will apply what they have learned.
