This webquest is designed to introduce students to quality literature and encourage them to be critical readers and effective users of information.
Teacher Introduction
How can we encourage students to become critical readers and effective users of information?
- How do we determine what qualifies as quality literature?
- How and why are books chosen for literary awards?
- Why is it important to read across genres?
- Why is it important to understand an author's intent?
- Why is it important to know an author's body of work?
There are many strategies for encouraging a love for quality literature, and for putting information literacy skills into practice. For this webquest, we have used books that have been nominated for the Sasquatch and the Young Reader's Choice Awards, and incorporated skills outlined in the Big6 Information Literacy Skills model.
