This WebQuest will give students the chance to explore the Aztec civilization by studying its location, the social structure, education & schooling practices, forms of artistic expression, religion & tradition practices, and the various technological advances they made in history. Students will take on the role of a museum curator and put together a display archiving what characteristics they learned about the Aztec civilization that, together, constitute “greatness”.
Introduction
The story of the Aztec Civilization is perhaps one of the most remarkable in history. The Aztecs thrived on the land that is now called Mexico City and became one of the most advanced civilizations of its time. Through this WebQuest, you will learn everything from the religious beliefs of the Aztecs to their incredible inventions. The Aztecs recorded their stories in books which they called codices. These books contained an extensive amount of information about their everyday lives and traditions. Thanks to these resources and our modern-day technology, we can quickly access virtually any information we are looking for about the Aztecs. You have been chosen by the Board of Directors of The Field Museum to design an exhibit to showcase the Aztec Civilization! You were chosen because of your archeology background and superb dedication to your job. The Board knows that you are a hard-worker and will do an excellent job. Through a recent survey, the public has suggested they would like to know more about how the Aztec Civilization flourished in the Ancient World. It is your job to create a museum display to communicate this essential historical information to the public.
