Teacher Process
The WebQuest is intended to be completed in one day. Students will need computers with high-speed internet while they are completing this project. They are also expected to complete written assignments while they complete the WebQuest in order to keep their thoughts focus and to prepare them for the following day's assignment.
Because the activity is a collaborative design, it allows students of all learning levels to work together successfully. Several of the reading selections are also available in a lower reading level, if necessary, and this source can be found on the same site. Furthermore, the incorporation of visuals and videos are intended to aid lower level readers and to encourage meaningful learning by keeping the activity fun and interesting.
The teams of delegates are strategically paired. Depending on the personality, strengths and weaknesses of each student, he/she will be assigned a delegate prior to this lesson whom they will research and write an "autobiography" about. These "delegates", in turn, are paired with the intention to compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses. Thus, the differentiation of the activity is built-in on many levels, both through the curriculum and the collaborative grouping.
The teacher's role is to facilitate and guide learning. At this point in the lesson, students should be confident with their knowledge of the Constitutional Era, and should be able to complete this assignment with little teacher aid. This WebQuest is intended primarily as a review of the information that students have learned throughout the unit as well as to prepare them for the following day's lesson, which is the culminating project of the unit.
