Teacher Process

For this project, students will be required to:

1. Create a layout for their restaurant and determine the cost of the design

2. Create a menu

3. Find and scale recipes

4. Find and scale costs of ingredients

5. Create two shopping lists

6. Create a budget

7. Present all of this information to the class

This project would best be used either at the end of a unit on ratios and proportions in Algebra 1 or as an introductory project for Algebra 2 as a review of concepts previously learned.  The students will need at least one day with internet access to work on finding the necessary data, but likely will need two.  Some class time should be given for working in teams; however, aspects of the project can be done at home.  For example, once roles and the restaurant type are determined, teh students should be able to draw their layout at home.  Scaling the recipes and calculating a final budget can also be done outside of class.  This entire webquest should not take more than two weeks.  (Possibly:  first two days in a computer lab, one to two days for in-class calculations, weekend for completing calculations, one to two day in-class to assemble presentations, one to two days presentations.)
