In this webquest, students will compare the cost of living based on the salary of a career of their choice vs. the salary of a job that pays minimum wage. Students will be able to understand and discuss the differences between the two salaries and ultimately decide for themselves if a career is a better choice than a minimum wage paying job.

Introduction

                                        

You are about to graduate High School in a few months.  You have no idea what you want to do with your life.  You go to your guidance counselor to ask for assistance, but she is sick and will be out of the office for a few weeks.  You have to make a decision soon because college application deadlines are coming up. 

 

You over hear some of your friends say they are going to find a job at the local mall and how much fun they will have.  They also talk about getting an apartment and moving out to live on their own.  However, you hear your teachers and parents talk about the importance of a college education.  You are not sure what to do. 

 

Get ready to enter the real world! Most students have no idea what they want to do when they graduate high school.  They also have no idea what the cost of living will be once they graduate.  Well by the end of this assignment you are going to find out what it will take to live on your own.  You will be able to compare the cost of living based on the salary of a college career that you choose vs. the cost of living on a minimum wage salary.
