by Valerie Hash, Hoover High School
Introduction This WebQuest activity will require students to utilize the information they have gathered from reading two books, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quiñonez as well as other works of literature, in order to synthesize new information to form their own opinion on the American Dream. Armed with this knowledge and their reflections on these books and pieces of literature, students will explore their own interpretation of the American Dream versus that of others. They will do so by choosing an immigrant group from their community and researching, via community interviews and academic research, to understand that group’s version of the American Dream, juxtaposed to their own. Their work will be assessed via a well-written multi-paragraph essay and a group presentation.
