This WebQuest was designed to teach Social Change through the use of music and popular musicians. Recently, a popular rock group named Fall Out Boy traveled to Northern Uganda to support the Invisible Children Organization. The WebQuest will teach 8th graders that people they respect make significant contributions to the world and it's problems. The students will complete research regarding the problems happening in Northern Uganda, discuss solutions in a panel discussion and write a group essay about those issues, how Fall Out Boy is making a difference, and how they can do the same.

Introduction

Welcome! Over the next week or so we will be learning about Northern Uganda, a place in Africa that has some very sad, but important things happening today.

As students and teenagers, we are very aware of problems that happen in our communities, things that make us mad, and things that affect our families and friends.

What about the rest of the world?

In this webquest, we are going to have the opportunity to connect music, musicians, world issues, and what we can do to help!

We will accomplish three things over the next seven or so days.

  1. Learn about Northern Uganda with creative web resources and discussion.
  2. Discuss what we could do if we were world leaders to help Ugandans beat the problems they are facing and what is interesting to us as students about the issues.
  3. Write a team essay involving everyone in the group to create a powerful paper!

Get excited, get motivated, and get involved!
