This web Quest is designed to engage students in the mythology surrounding Homer's Odyssey. This will also give them a better understanding about the characters and settings.

Introduction

Are you an Adventurer at heart? Do you love exploring new uncharted lands? Then you are much like Odysseus from Homer's epic poem The Odyssey.    This work of literature has been considered the birth of classic literature.

The Odyssey takes place some thousands and thousands of years ago. In a time where mortal life was manipulated in the hands of Gods and Goddess. These immortal mythical creatures reined in a place above human life called Mount Olympus.  The Gods can favor a mortal and in turn will make this mortals life very favorable.

Odysseus was favored by many Gods and Goddess that aided him in his journey home. There was one God in particular Poseidon the God of the Sea that did not want Odysseus to make his journey.  Upsetting the sea God when your mode of travel is by sea can call for hardships throughout the voyage. Odysseus and his men were blown off course to uncharted Islands of sometimes dangerous inhabitants.  The cunning hero was able to maneuver his way through countless obstacles.

Since we have already read the Odyssey it is time to embark on our own voyage through the mythical seas ruled by Poseidon.
