The target audience for this WebQuest are 9-12th grade English students. It could be used as an introduction to a fantasy/science fiction course or a creative writing class in which the students will be able to branch out and write in other genres besides the mainstream fiction, personal narrative, and/or biography genres. Moreover, a typical English class could use this WebQuest since it addresses several national standards and allows the students to think creatively. In order to create the final short story not only will the students use their own personal experience and work collaboratively, but they will also use their imagination to create an original piece of short literature.
The ideal class size is 24 since there are 6 sub-genres the class will be researching in groups of 4; however, it is also possible to have as little as 15 students since the sub-genres and group size can be adapted. If there are more than 24 students involved there could be overlap on the sub-genres since the final product is a work of imagination and no two stories will be the same. Moreover, there are also several degrees of each sub-genre that could be researched depending on the examples given in the process section.
