Teacher Introduction

Dear Teachers,

This project was created for middle school students who are beginning to study French and who have limited knowledge of the influence of French language, music, food and history on North American culture.

The activity is in English, but several questions demand that students compare standard French to French dialects that exist in the United States and that students list recipe ingredients in both languages. I also ask students to draw connections between the French that they already know, (dishes such as crêpes and filet mignon) as well as French words that have become common in English (such as fiancé).

This WebQuest can be easily adapted to various levels of French...I hope that your students will enjoy it.
