Teacher Process

1. Create groups of up to six students.

2. Present the class with the list of different works by Edgar Allan Poe that they will choose from in order to carry out the project.

3. Model a completed character pyramid and character analysis for an example literary character. Make sure students know that each group member will complete both a character pyramid and their own personal character analysis description.

4. Instruct students to review the Cold Case Files website for episode information. Each group is required to have both the literary characters and supplimental characters (detectives, victims, witnesses, etc.) included in their final project presentation.

5. Reiterate that the groups should follow the format of an episode from Cold Case Files. Stress that they must solve the mystery or murder by the end of the episode.

 6. Encourage students to be creative and construct interesting dialogue for each character. It is suggested that students record their episode instead of presenting live in front of the class due to timing, setting prompts and other cumbersome materials.

7. Refer to the "Evaluation" page for a sample rubric. Feel free to use a different format for your own classroom
