Process
As a class we will go over what a life cycle is and how it is different for different types of animals. We will then discuss how we can find this research using the internet and books in the school library.
The class will then be divided into groups of three of more. There will be five groups total. Each group will chose a different animal from the list below:
Once your group has their animal your group must work together as a team to find the following information by clicking the animal above and looking online for more information:
- What are the different life cycles of your animal?
- What is unique about each of these stages?
- What physical changes does your animal make during these stages of the animal cycle?
- Where does your animal live (their habitat) during the animal cycles?
- What does your animal eat during the stages of their life cycle?
- What are the animals predators during these stages of their life cycle?
- what your animal looks like
- what stage your animal is in!
- how your animal FEELS (this is important to have a good journal entry)
- what your animals habitat is
- what your animal is eating
- what activities your animal does from day to day in the life cycle
Once your groups journal entries are finished, have your other group members read each others entries to check for correct research and correct use of grammar. Correct all of your proof read materials.
After the journal entries for the day are completed, your group will draw a picture of what the animal looks like in that stage. The picture much be bright, big, and colorful! At the end of the fie days, your will present these pictures, along with keys facts of your animal in that stage to the class.
Remember: HAVE FUN! BE CREATIVE!
Group Tasks:
All group members must work together as a time at all times. No one group member will do most of the work, as well as no group members will be left out.
Day One, Research:
Assign each group member different information on your animal to research. Have each group member print and save their materials for future research.
Days two through five:
When putting together your Journals, write the key facts of your animals using your own words!
When all of your group members have completed their journals, each student will then edit the group members journals. check for:
- spelling errors
- grammar errors
- is the information correct?
- does the information fit your research?
Your final drafts will be turned in to the teacher once they are completed. YOu will know your journals are ready to turn in when they have no errors and they look professional (remember Big Mac quality). You may then create a title page (you may name your journals what you wish). The teacher will then bind these all together, and after they have been graded, will hand them back for you to keep.
Presentation:
Hang up your pictures of your animals life cycle in front of the classroom. Each student will discuss each stage of the life cycle, and one or two important facts about that stage. Every student MUST participate!
Your Journal Entries are ready to be turned in when:
- They have been peer edited
- they have been corrected and have nor errors
- they look profession
- they have your name and date on them
- you have answered all of the questions needed about your animal's life cycle
Group Presentation:
- Pictures of each stage
- deligate group members to present each stage (must be equal)
- Present in this form:
- The first stage is....
- two interesting facts about our animal in this stage is...
