Process
1) As a class, you have already been broken up into six groups. Each group has been assigned a literary device from the following list:
- Alliteration
- Metaphor
- Onomatopoeia
- Personification
- Simile
- Tone
2) It is time to research your literary device. You will need to take a few notes on the information you find. Before we go back to class, make sure you have a definition of the device written down and any other notes that will help you understand it. You should copy the definition you find and then rewrite it in your own words so that you're clear about what it means.
Use the following websites to find information:

3) Once you are back in class, find the other students who have the same literary device as you. Together, you will create a poster that you can use to teach the rest of the class about your literary device. The poster should include:
- A definition of the device
- Two examples from poems (Your teachers will provide your group with poems)
- A drawing which represents the device and will help your classmates remember it, or any other idea you think of that will help your classmates remember it (first check with me to make sure your idea works)
4) When your poster is completed, you will present it to the class! We will spend some time in class helping you prepare your presentation. Each presentation should last about 5 minutes.
5) After all of the groups have presented, you will compose your own original poem using at least three of the literary devices presented.
You will be graded on four different categories for this project, including:
- Participation
- Group poster
- Presentation
- Personal poem
