Students become the Editor of a California Gold Rush newspaper. Their task is to decide what news to publish in the newspaper. They must evaluate the material to decide the most important news to share with the rest of the world about the excitement and struggles during the Gold Rush.

In an effort to provide students with a "real-life" learning scenario, this webquest is designed to provide a role that engages students in higher level thinking skills. It is an extension of the classroom teaching and materials with integrated use of technology productivity tools. Additional activities are found in the Conclusion, which supports differentiation in order to meet the need of all learners.
