Besides using the bookmarked internet sites for the Gold Rush, I also used the Discovery Education site to access a video on the Gold Rush, "Trails to Riches: The California Gold Rush and Settlement of Pacific Northwest".

To help the students organize the material, I recommend using Inspiration to create a graphic organizer to list the most relevant topics and then evaluate which ones to include in the newspaper. Finally, I used a newspaper template from Pages, Collector Newspaper to try to make it look authentic. There are a variety of free sites to select clip art from for the newspaper, as well. Many applications could be substituted to accomplish the same goals.
